The mission of the America's School of Heroes Music Department is to provide authentic and meaningful musical experiences through performance in an environment that nurtures, motivates, and challenges students to become proficient musicians.
Students on the performance track are taught the fundamental concepts and skills required to begin instrumental or vocal instruction. Curricula are designed standards found in the New York State Music Blueprint.
Students learn music and rhythmic notation, performance techniques, ensemble etiquette, develop their listening skill all while learning how to play an instrument or sing.
Music fundamentals learned during the previous year are reinforced while new concepts and playing techniques are introduced. Students a this level work on musical repertoire in preparation for both the Winter and Spring concerts.
At this level, students are honing their technical proficiency through scales studies, drills, and advanced repertoire. The focus is less on the individual and more on the group as a whole. As a result, focus is given to ensemble balance, clarity, blend, and intonation. In addition to performing in both the Winter and Spring concerts, students also prepare for NYSSMA adjudication and other outside venues.
